COURSE DESCRIPTION
Launching an exciting partnership with Aneroussa Beach Hotel, this program takes place in Andros and is designed for students who want to make rapid progress in Modern Greek and deepen their understanding of Greece and its culture. It offers an intensive language course at beginner, intermediate and advanced level. The course consists of 40 hours, divided across 10 days, and includes reading, speaking, grammar and writing. It also provides an insight into Greek culture and civilization with particular focus on Andros and the Cyclades. Special courses of Modern Greek Literature and Culture and of Ancient Greek are offered on request. Our Greek teachers are qualified, specialized and experienced in teaching Greek as a foreign language. Moreover the course combines lectures, outdoor activities and various tours helping students become more familiar with contemporary Greek life and culture.
“We Learn Greek” in Andros, one of the largest islands of the Cyclades archipelago and the greenest of them all. Andros offers visitors the opportunity to admire different architectural styles, including neo-classical and local Cycladic buildings, and enjoy its clear blue waters in a beautiful, varied landscape. It thereby makes an ideal destination for a range of visitors, from those who prefer a quiet family holiday to those who revel in nightlife and exciting adventures. Spring is particularly beautiful on this island with many nature lovers taking walking tours, enjoying the scenery, and discovering rare species of flowers.
COURSE PROGRAM
• Sunday, June 14, 2020. Arrival in Andros and check in.
• Monday, June 15 – Friday, June 19 and Monday, June 22 – Friday, June 26, from 9:00 to 13:00. Lessons in ANEROUSSA beach hotel.
• Friday, June 26, 2020. Graduation with representatives of Alexandria Institute and Greek local authorities.
• Saturday, June 27, 2020. Departure from Andros.

LOCATION
The program will be held on Andros island, at ANEROUSSA beach hotel (www.aneroussabeach.gr/). We can offer students accommodation in this 3-star premier resort located between two sandy beaches with crystal clear waters, Delavogia and Ag. Marina, only 800 meters from the picturesque, amphitheatrically built Batsi, the tourist settlement of the island. Batsi is 6 km from the port of Gavrio and approx. 30 km from the capital of Andros, Hora.
The hotel is well-known for its naturally beautiful, romantic and serene environment. Its style is unique, blending architectural elements of neo-classical mansions of Andros with the simplicity which characterizes Cycladic architecture. All rooms have private verandas, or balconies, looking out onto endless sea views, well-preserved gardens and near-by islands – allcreating a wonderful backdrop to spectacular sunsets.

GETTING TO ANDROS
Andros is only a two-hour ferry trip away from Rafina Port, which is 45 minutes from the center of Athens. It is 2,5 hours away from Myconos, and 50 minutes from Tinos. There are daily morning, afternoon and evening departures from Rafina Port, and back. Frequent daily buses connect El. Venizelos Airport to Rafina Port. Ferry tickets can be bought on site before boarding.However, we recommend that you reserve a place if you are travelling in July and August and at weekends during the summer. If you need help with ferry time tables and tickets, please do not hesitate to contact us.

The course is organized by Alexandria Institute (Athens) with the collaboration of Arethas Institute (Athens) for Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Projects.
REGISTRATION

Please describe in detail your previous knowledge of Modern Greek, both written and spoken, as well as whether you have any knowledge of Ancient Greek. Additionally you may also add any preferences and interests regarding history, music, dance or other aspects of Greek culture. The TWO WEEKS GREEK LANGUAGE COURSE includes:
• The course: 40 hours of lessons spread over 10 days, with teachers who are Greek, qualified and experienced in teaching Greek as a foreign language. That is 5 + 5 days of lessons with a break of 2 days during the weekend, which may be devoted to excursions and various cultural activities (optional).
• All teaching material (books, photocopies, CD).
• The welcome drink and a dinner at the end of the course in a typical Greek tavern.
ONE WEEK GREEK LANGUAGE COURSE
Those who cannot stay for 2 weeks in Greece can choose a 1-WEEK COURSE, which will start the first week of every 2-week intensive course (day 1 till day 7). Check-in will be on Sunday, and check-out the following Sunday.
THE ONE WEEK GREEK LANGUAGE COURSE includes:
- The course: 20 hours of lessons divided into 5 days, with teachers experienced in teaching Greek as a second language. After the 5 days of tuition there is one free day devoted to various cultural activities and excursions (these are optional).
- All teaching material (books, photocopies, CD).
- The welcome drink.
ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS
A minimum number of 4 participants per level and a maximum of 8 students per class is required. However, it is up to the Institute whether to run courses with a fewer number of students. If a class (level) has less than 4 students, the teaching hours will be reduced to 3 hours per day if there are 3 or 2 students, or to 2 hours per day (private lessons) if there is 1 student for the same course fee. Lessons usually take place from 09:00 to 13:00. Alexandria Institute reserves the right to change the schedule or the location of the venue if it is deemed necessary.
